Catherine's Year of Service
This year has been a great opportunity for me to work with all
kinds of different people and learn from each of them. It definitely
taught me a lot about working with others and has pointed me further
in the direction to hopefully focus my practice on underserved populations.
From the youngest to the oldest and everyone in between, I learned
how best to manage serious situations, as well as smile at fun ones!
Serving with Generations Incorporated, I was able to be involved
in the Boston Public Schools, as well as become connected with a
great team of other site coordinators. I was also exposed to a new
community in the Roxbury neighborhood that I otherwise would not
be a part of.
The community I was in was very strong and confirmed my idea that
communities are strong when they bond together.
Although I will probably not see many of the students again, I
will treasure what I learned from them in how to learn and be open
to new experiences. The older adults have really been the people
I learned most from, about how to relax and laugh through things,
but to understand the seriousness of various situations.
