Katie's Year of Service

I decided to take a year to volunteer through AmeriCorps, and it was the best decision! Volunteering exposed me to more than I could have imagined. Throughout the year, I was able to impact so many people's lives, from the Experience Corps members who volunteered their time for the children to the children we served. I can honestly say that I made an impact on many children we worked with, and they all have changed my life forever.

Going into this year of service, I figured I would make some good friends. Instead, I have made life-long relationships. The other AmeriCorps members I served with have all made an impact in my life, and many of them will continue to do so. I have never been in a place where there are so many wonderful and caring people. I have also gained many relationships with the older adults we serve with. When I was around many of them, I felt like I was around family. They truly cared.

After my year of service I now know that I want to work with underprivileged children. I want to do what I can to help them more.
