Who Are Our AmeriCorps Members?

AmeriCorps members provide critical support for our programs in
schools and after-school sites. Here is an overview of one AmeriCorps
member's year with us:
Cara, AmeriCorps Lead 2006:
Serving as an AmeriCorps member pushed me even further into wanting
to work with people. I loved being around people and especially
enjoyed reading with different students. I saw a side of Boston
that I'm sure I never would have while doing something different.
I learned about the Boston Public School system. I learned a lot
about working with older adults. I feel like I learned a lot about
myself and how I deal with different people and situations.
It was also great to get a sense of community within the community,
in the volunteers who came from the area and wanted to give back.
All in all, my year of service was great. I was really glad to
be with such an amazing organization and I feel like I learned a
lot about myself, working with people older and younger than I as
well as with other cultures. I definitely came away with much more
than I gave.
