Elderly Commission MLK Day of Service - Dorchester

  • Thelma Burns Bldg 575 Warren Street Dorchester, Mass. 02121 (map)

Dear Age-Friendly network,

Are you interested in volunteering at a special event to commemorate Martin Luther King Day?

On Friday, January 18th, Mayor Walsh's Senior Corps programs will partner with Boston ABCD's Foster Grandparent Program, Massachusetts Service Alliance, the Bridge over Troubled Waters and University High School in creating care packages for homeless Boston youth.

We are looking to recruit 18 new older adult volunteers age 55+

Location: Thelma Burns Building
                 575 Warren Street
                   Dorchester, MA 02121

Time: 10:30 - 3:30 p.m.

Volunteers will join together for this engaging activity that will include games, fun trivia on MLK, and education around youth homelessness. This will be a fun inter-generational service activity; refreshments will be served. Delivery of packages to Bridge over Troubled Waters the day of the event.

How This Helps Our Community
We will recruit volunteers age 55+ to engage them in impact-driven service. Our desired outcome for the community served is that 100 homeless youth will receive care packages filled with much needed basic care items. We will increase awareness of Dr. King's legacy and the issue of youth homelessness among our volunteers; we also hope to enhance connection between the inter-generational volunteers who will be serving.

Space is limited so please let me know if you are interested!
